The police brought guns and dogs

New Brunswick is at a boiling point after heavily armed cops used dogs and pepper spray to break up Mi’kmaq protesters. Unless we raise our voices now this standoff could turn even uglier.

The Mi’kmaq want to stop a fracking project that will pollute traditional lands and could poison the water their children drink. For three years they have called for dialogue, but the government has ignored them and now responded with repression. After this weekend’s shame, the Premier has been forced to meet with First Nations leaders, but unless he feels massive public pressure to stop the dangerous drilling, the situation could explode.

Let’s make sure Premier Alward knows the whole country demands he put the First Nations health and rights ahead of drillers profits. Sign now and tell everyone — let’s build a 50,000 strong petition before the meeting.
